Son of God Synopsis
Now, the larger-than-life story of The New Testament gets a larger-than life treatment in the stand-alone feature SON OF GOD. Told with the scope and scale of an action epic, the film features powerful performances, exotic locales, dazzling visual effects and a rich orchestral score from Oscar®-winner Hans Zimmer. Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado portrays Jesus as the film spans from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection. It marks the first motion picture about Jesus’ life since Passion of the Christ, released ten years ago.
It's been a decade since I last saw Mel Gibson's The Passion of The Christ in theaters and now there's another new film version about Jesus. I saw Son of God in theaters recently and I loved and enjoyed watching it as much as I did when it was shown as part of the epic 10-part The Bible mini-series on History channel last Easter. I thought it was even better that it was made or rather remade and edited as a standalone feature film and a companion to the Bible series just focusing on Jesus Christ's larger than life and greatest story ever told. It was great seeing this as a two-hour movie on the big screen! Even much better that it just focused on Jesus and his story from his humble birth through his teachings, healing and showing miracles, passion/crucifixion, and resurrection. Also, it was great to see it with zero commercials and as a standalone film. I'm very glad the filmmakers and producers decided to do this and made it a film version as well, so more people will see this (especially this lent and Easter season) that didn't watch or missed the Bible series last year (even though it's available now on DVD/Blu-ray and Digital HD). I'll definitely be buying the DVD/Blu-ray for this to add to my Movies on DVD/Blu-ray (that I love) collection.

Diogo Mordado was simply amazing and believable as Jesus Christ and of course, very handsome and looked so much like him (at least of what I'd imagine and seen in images depicting our Lord Jesus Christ to look like) too! He did a fantastic job playing Jesus. Roma Downey (co-producer of this film with her husband Mark Burnett...loved her in Touched By An Angel) was very good too as Mary, mother of Jesus. The rest of the supporting cast for this TV/Film version did very good too.

Overall, Son of God was beautiful, epic, inspiring, heart-wrenching, uplifting, and a humble version of Jesus Christ's greatest story ever told (and worth retelling over and over again). I loved and enjoyed watching this movie as much (or even more) as I had enjoyed watching it when it was part of The Bible series. I definitely recommend you see this movie, if you haven't already. Best time to watch this is on Easter/Holy week. Go see it!

My Son of God film rating:  (9.5/10A)
